Securing Our Future: Why the Voters Must Decide on Montgomery County’s Critical Infrastructure

The hallmark of true conservative governance is transparency. When tough, expensive decisions need to be made, we don’t hide them in backrooms, we bring them directly to the people.

Recently, the Montgomery County Commissioners Court took action to formally consider the construction of two massive and necessary infrastructure projects: a new Montgomery County Courthouse and a new Montgomery County Jail.

Because this impacts every resident in our community, I want to address exactly why this is on the table, what happens if we ignore the problem, and why the final decision will rest entirely in your hands.

The Reality of Historic Growth

Montgomery County is the economic engine of the Texas Gulf Coast. As our nation has embraced a renewed, America-First economic optimism over the past year, our local growth has surged even faster. Families and businesses are moving here in record numbers because of our low taxes and our absolute commitment to public safety.

But this explosive growth is pushing our existing infrastructure to the breaking point. Our current courthouse and jail facilities have served us well, but they were designed for a county a fraction of our current size. They are aging, overcrowded, and increasingly inefficient.

The Conservative Principle: You Decide

Let me be very clear: the recent action by the Commissioners Court to consider these projects is not a blank check, and it is not a finalized tax hike.

In liberal strongholds, politicians use backdoor spending and bureaucratic loopholes to force massive projects onto the public. We do not do that in Montgomery County. The steps we are taking now are about studying the needs, determining the true costs, and drafting a transparent, responsible plan.

Ultimately, any funding for a new courthouse or jail will most surely require a bond referendum. This means it will be placed on the ballot. You, the taxpayer, will review the facts, look at the cost, and make the ultimate decision at the voting booth. As your County Judge, I believe that is exactly how government should work.

The High Cost of Doing Nothing

Some may ask, “Why not just leave things as they are?”

It is a fair question, but doing nothing carries a heavy, dangerous price. If we do not address these critical infrastructure needs, or if a bond referendum were to fail, the implications for our community are severe:

  • 🚨 Forced “Catch and Release”: You cannot have a “Culture of Deterrence” if you do not have the physical space to lock up criminals. If our county jail reaches absolute maximum capacity, we risk state or federal mandates forcing us to release offenders back onto our streets. As conservatives, we refuse to adopt the disastrous “catch and release” policies that have destroyed liberal cities.
  • ⚖️ Delayed Justice: Our courts handle everything from violent felonies to business disputes. With a maxed-out courthouse, dockets get heavily backlogged. Delayed justice is denied justice, and it creates a bureaucratic nightmare that keeps law enforcement officers tied up in court instead of out on patrol.
  • 💸 Exploding Maintenance Costs: Pouring millions of taxpayer dollars into decaying, outdated facilities is like putting a band-aid on a sinking ship. It is fiscally irresponsible to keep paying premium repair costs for buildings that have fundamentally outlived their useful lifespan.

Moving Forward to the Ballot Box

My job as your County Judge is to identify threats to our community’s future, tell you the truth, and present a solution.

We need a justice system that can keep up with our historic growth, and we need a county jail that keeps predators where they belong. But I will not make the final call for you. It is vital that the Commissioners Court continues moving this planning process forward so we can bring a concrete, transparent bond proposal to the voters.

I trust the conservative voters of Montgomery County. I trust you to review the facts, weigh the costs, and make the right decision for the future of our home.

Let’s keep Montgomery County safe, strong, and in the hands of the people.
